The short answer

The first farm opens on 24 Oct, and the single biggest opening day is Friday 27 November, the day after Thanksgiving. Of the 121 farms on this site with a published 2026 date, the earliest, Dupras’ Evergreen Acres, is in New Jersey. By state, New Jersey starts on 24 Oct, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington on 14 Nov, Michigan on 20 Nov, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia on 21 Nov. Dates below come from each farm’s own page, and the ones still to post are named rather than guessed at.

Go on the opening weekend if you want a tall tree

This is the one piece of timing advice worth more than the rest. A choose-and-cut farm grows a fixed number of trees and cannot restock: when the field is cut, the season is over, whatever the published end date says. Nearly every farm on this site writes “until sold out” next to its closing date for exactly that reason.

Tall trees go first and they go fast. Brushy Creek in Texas expected three weekends last season and sold out of cut-your-owns inside them. If you want anything over about 8 ft, the first weekend is not a preference, it is the plan — and what a tree costs shows how steeply the price climbs with height once you get there.

Opening date questions

When do Christmas tree farms open in 2026?

The first farm on this site opens on 24 Oct, and most of the rest follow from mid-November, with the biggest single day being the Friday after Thanksgiving, 27 November. Of the 121 farms on this site with a published 2026 date, the earliest, Dupras’ Evergreen Acres, is in New Jersey. It is also the only farm we have found that opens in October.

Why do North Carolina farms open earlier than Texas ones?

North Carolina starts on 14 Nov and Texas on 21 Nov. The mountain farms are cutting Fraser fir that will be trucked to lots across the east coast, so their season starts when the wholesale cutting does. A Texas farm is selling pine and cypress to people who drive out for the afternoon, and nobody in Texas wants a tree in the house in mid-November.

What is the earliest I can cut a Christmas tree?

24 Oct at the farms listed on this page. Going early is the only way to be sure of a tall tree: a farm sells a fixed crop and stops when the field is empty, and the 10 ft trees are the first to go. Brushy Creek in Texas sold out of cut-your-owns inside three weekends last season.

How late can I still cut my own tree?

Later than most people think. Several farms run to the weekend before Christmas and a few to Christmas Eve itself — Miller's in Lancaster County lists 24 December, and Lee County near Austin runs every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas Eve. The catch is that what is left in the third week of December is what nobody else wanted.

Are Christmas tree farms open on Thanksgiving Day?

Mostly not. Several say so plainly — Pipe Creek near San Antonio and Haynie's near Fort Worth are both closed on the day itself and open the morning after. The exceptions we have found: Greene Tree Farm near Boone opens on Thanksgiving morning; Spruce Goose in Chesterfield, New Jersey, opens from 9am to 2pm; Christmas at the Farm (Dairyland) in Snohomish, Washington, opens its U-cut field from 10am to 2pm; Addison-Oaks in Oakland Township, Michigan, opens from 9am to noon; Bacon's near Bremerton, Washington, already open since mid-November, stays open until noon. The Friday after is the busiest day of the season almost everywhere.

How these are checked

Every date on this page is read from the farm’s own website, its Facebook or Instagram, or an email the farm sent us, and is reproduced here from the farm’s own listing on this site rather than typed in a second time. Last checked 17 Oct 2026.

We do not take dates from growers’ association directories. The Texas one was wrong twice this season, listing two farms as closed that were open. Where a farm has published nothing for 2026, it is absent from this page rather than carrying last year’s date — the state pages name those farms and say what is missing.
