The short version
We do not ask you for anything. There is no account to create, no newsletter, no form to fill in. We do not sell data, and we never will. What does happen is ordinary for a free website: a cookie counts your visit, and advertising is served by Google, which uses cookies of its own. Everything below is the detail of those two things.
What we collect ourselves
Nothing you type, because there is nothing to type. PickingHours has no sign-up, no comments and no contact form. The only information you can give us is an email you choose to send to hello@pickinghours.com, and that is used to answer you and nothing else. It is not added to any list, and it is not passed to anyone.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It records things like the pages you open, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device and browser you use. It does not tell us who you are, and we never try to find out.
Google sets cookies to do this. You can prevent it entirely with Google’s own Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser. The site works perfectly well either way.
Advertising
PickingHours is free to read and is paid for by advertising, served through Google AdSense. This matters for your privacy in a specific way, and Google requires us to spell it out:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and to other sites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google in Google’s Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices or the Network Advertising Initiative.
- Opting out does not remove the ads. It makes them less relevant, and nothing else on the site changes.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before any advertising or analytics cookie that is not strictly necessary is set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time.
Advertising has no influence on the content of this site. No farm pays to be listed, to rank higher or to be written about favourably, and advertisers have no say in any of it.
What is not here
No selling or renting of data to anyone, for any purpose. No newsletter list. No tracking pixels from social networks. No affiliate links in the farm listings — when a listing links to a farm, it is because that is the farm’s website, and nobody is paid for the click. No attempt to identify individual readers.
Links to farms and other sites
Every listing links to the farm’s own website, Facebook or Instagram so you can check what we have written. Those sites have their own privacy practices and we are not responsible for them. The same goes for any other site linked from these pages.
Children
This site is written for adults planning a family outing. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — the UK and EEA under the GDPR, California under the CCPA, and others — you may have the right to ask what data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. Since we hold nothing about you beyond any email you have chosen to send us, there is usually very little to act on, but ask and we will tell you exactly what we have and delete it if you want.
For data held by Google through analytics and advertising, use the Google links above, which reach Google’s own controls directly.
Questions about any of this: hello@pickinghours.com.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date below changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, so it is worth a glance if you care about the detail.
