Houston Christmas tree farm questions
When do Christmas tree farms open near Houston?
Four open on Saturday 21 November 2026: the Old Time Christmas Tree Farm in Spring, Spring Creek Growers in Magnolia, Family Roots TX in Hockley and Oh What Fun It Is in Willis. Holiday Acres in Manvel opens on Friday 27 November, the Friday after Thanksgiving, when most Texas farms start. Skyvara in Cleveland and Double Creek in Livingston open that day too. Dewberry Farm and Martin Farms have yet to announce their 2026 tree dates.
Is there a Christmas tree farm in Spring, TX?
Yes: the Old Time Christmas Tree Farm at 7632 Spring Cypress Road, about 30 minutes from downtown Houston. It opens for Christmas on 21 November. Entry is free, you cut your own pine or cypress (6 ft and up) with the saw they lend you, trees start at $85 for 5 ft, and there are pre-cut firs too. Spring Creek Growers in Magnolia is about 20 minutes further north-west.
What kind of Christmas tree can you cut near Houston?
Trees that cope with the Gulf Coast heat: Virginia pine and Leyland cypress at Spring Creek Growers, Virginia pine at Family Roots TX, Murray cypress at Dewberry Farm, and pine and cypress at the Old Time Christmas Tree Farm. Firs aren’t grown around Houston, so a Fraser, Noble or Nordmann fir is pre-cut, shipped in from North Carolina or Oregon.
How much is a real Christmas tree at a farm near Houston?
Spring Creek Growers in Magnolia and Double Creek in Livingston are the two farms with a full 2026 price list up. Double Creek charges by the foot — $10 a foot below 10 ft and $14 a foot above, so $50 for a 5 ft tree and $168 at 12 ft. Dewberry Farm at Brookshire posts a full ladder too — Murray cypress from $92 to $369 at 14 ft, with pre-cut Frasier fir $95 to $275 — and Tanglewood near Bryan also posts a full ladder — $10, $12 and $16 a foot by size band, tax included — but neither prints a year on it. Spring Creek’s list is the fullest: $82 for a 6 ft Virginia pine, $145 at 9 ft and $319 at 13 ft, with Leyland cypress a few dollars more at every height ($86 at 6 ft, $282 at 12 ft). A living Leyland in a pot is $185 for 7 ft. Two farms have given us a starting price: the Old Time Christmas Tree Farm in Spring from $85 for a 5 ft tree and Oh What Fun It Is in Willis from $70 for a 6 ft tree, both rising with height and neither fully set yet. Family Roots TX in Hockley starts at $87 for a 6 ft tree and caps every tree over 10 ft at $150 this season. Holiday Acres has put up its 2026 price bands by height but hasn’t filled in the amounts. Pre-cut firs are priced tree by tree. Entry itself is free at Old Time, Holiday Acres and Family Roots TX, and Dewberry doesn’t charge a ticket to cut a tree.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes at the Old Time Christmas Tree Farm, on a leash, with free doggie bags at the entrance, yes on a leash at Oh What Fun It Is in Willis, and yes at Family Roots TX in Hockley, where a well-behaved dog can even ride the hayride, and yes at Spring Creek Growers in Magnolia, on a leash. No at Dewberry Farm, where the barnyard animals roam. The other farms don’t say.
How these were checked
Each listing comes from the farm’s own website, read on 3 Oct 2026. A 2026 date only appears when the farm itself has posted it; anything from last season is labelled as last year’s. Most Texas farms post their dates in November, and many sell out before Christmas, so we’ll keep checking through the season.
