Dallas Christmas tree farm questions
When do Christmas tree farms open near Dallas in 2026?
Kadee Farm at Greenville opens first, on Saturday 21 November, and runs to Saturday 19 December. Pond Hill Farm at Canton opens on Monday 23 November, but the first three days are pre-cut Fraser fir only and the cut-your-own field opens on Black Friday, 27 November. Elves at Denison and Bois D’Arc at Telephone both open on Friday 27 November at 10am. All four are closed on Thanksgiving Day itself, Thursday 26 November.
How much is a Christmas tree near Dallas?
Pond Hill Farm charges a flat $89 for any cut-your-own tree between 4 and 12 ft, and $109 and up for a pre-cut North Carolina Fraser fir. Bois D’Arc prices its field trees from $120 to $400, with the tax already in the figure on the tag, and sells a 3-gallon potted loblolly at $50. Kadee Farm publishes only a $60 minimum for the cut-your-own field, and Elves publishes no prices at all. For a tall tree, Pond Hill's flat rate is the one to beat: a 12 ft tree there costs the same $89 as a 4 ft one.
Which is the closest Christmas tree farm to Dallas?
Kadee Farm at Greenville, about 50 minutes north-east on US-69. Pond Hill at Canton is about an hour east, a mile and a half off I-20. After that it is a long way: Elves at Denison is an hour and a quarter north and Bois D’Arc at Telephone an hour and three-quarters north-east, closer to the Oklahoma line than to Dallas. There is no Christmas tree farm in Dallas itself, which is normal — tree fields need land.
What kind of Christmas tree can you cut near Dallas?
Virginia pine at Kadee and Pond Hill, which is what most of Texas grows, because fir will not take the heat. Elves and Bois D’Arc do not name the species in their own fields. The Fraser firs sold at Pond Hill and the Fraser, Noble, Nordmann and Grand firs at Elves are all pre-cut, trucked down from North Carolina and the north-west, which is why they cost more. The southern trees compared goes through what each is like in a room.
Which farm is open on weekday evenings?
Kadee Farm is the only one open into the evening all season, 2 to 8pm Monday to Friday. The catch is that the cut-your-own field closes at 5pm, so an evening visit there is for the pre-cut lot, the wreath barn and the trail of lights rather than for cutting your own. Pond Hill is open 2 to 8pm on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, but those three evenings are pre-cut Fraser fir only, and from December it is weekends. Elves opens weekdays from 3 to 5pm, a tight two hours for a drive of an hour and a quarter, and Bois D’Arc is Friday to Sunday only.
Do they provide a saw?
Kadee does, and says plainly that chainsaws are not allowed. The other three do not say on their own websites, so phone ahead if you would rather not carry one. Kadee also sets a $60 minimum in the cut-your-own field, which is worth knowing before you pick a small tree.
Be honest about the drive
There is no Christmas tree farm in Dallas, and only one within an hour.
Kadee at Greenville is about 50 minutes out and
Pond Hill at Canton about an hour; after that you are looking at
an hour and a quarter to Elves and an hour and
three-quarters to Bois D’Arc. That is the
shape of it in north Texas, where tree farms sit well outside the metro, and it is worth
planning the day around rather than discovering at the far end of it.
Two of the four stop when the field is empty rather than on a fixed date, and Texas farms are
small — a few thousand trees, four or five weekends, then done. If you want a tall tree,
the opening weekend is not an optional nicety.
How these were checked
Each listing comes from the farm’s own website, read on 22 Oct 2026, and is re-read
when a farm posts something new — each card carries the date it was last read. We do not use the
growers’ association directory for dates, prices or whether a farm is open: it was wrong
twice this season about farms that were trading normally.
Two of these four were only confirmed this week. Kadee Farm sets
its opening announcement in pictures rather than text, so it read to us as a farm that had
posted nothing while its home page was announcing the season in large type; its tree sales page
still carries last season’s “now closed” heading, which did not help.
Pond Hill prints no year against its tree season, and is listed
here because the dates it does print fall on the right days of the week for 2026 and on the
wrong ones for 2025. Both cards say so.
Prices are the gap. Only Pond Hill and Bois D’Arc publish real figures; Kadee publishes
a minimum and Elves nothing. We have asked, and the figures go up here as they come in.
