Christmas tree farms in Texas

Every Texas choose-and-cut farm we can confirm for 2026, grouped by the city it is nearest. Texas grows pine and cypress rather than fir, and almost every farm opens the day after Thanksgiving and runs until the field is empty. Where a farm has published nothing, this page says so rather than guessing.

When Texas farms open

Almost all of them open on Friday 27 November, the day after Thanksgiving, and then run at weekends until they sell out. Three open the weekend before — Elgin near Austin, Devine Acres near San Antonio and Kadee Farm near Dallas, all on Saturday 21 November — and Pipe Creek opens on Monday 23 November. It and Kadee Farm near Dallas are the two that then open every day rather than only at weekends.

That bunching matters more in Texas than it does in the mountains. A farm here grows perhaps a few thousand trees, opens for four or five weekends and stops when the field is empty: Brushy Creek near Bowie sold out of cut-your-owns inside three weekends last season. If you want a tall tree, the opening weekend is not an optional nicety.

Austin

Three farms, all of them east of the city, and not one of them has published a price. The full Austin page has the hours, what each farm offers and why the prices are missing.

San Antonio

Two farms, one of them open daily.

Fort Worth

Three farms. Two are about twenty minutes south; the third is an hour and twenty south-west, and nearer Waco than Fort Worth. It is the only Texas metro where every farm publishes a price, and the spread runs from $12 a foot to $449.99. The full Fort Worth page has the hours, the prices and what each farm provides.

Dallas

Four farms, and the metro has gone from two to four in a week. Only one is within an hour. The full Dallas page has the hours, the prices and the drive times.

Texas does not grow fir

It is too hot. What grows here is Virginia pine, Leyland cypress, Murray cypress, Arizona cypress and Afghan pine, and those are what you cut. They hold a different shape from a fir — softer, denser, less of a classic cone — and the cypresses barely smell, which suits anyone who finds a fir overpowering and disappoints everyone else.

The Fraser firs on sale at Texas farms were cut on a North Carolina mountainside and trucked down, usually days before the farm opens. They are pre-cut, not choose-and-cut, and the haulage is in the price. Sunset Hill sells both and the gap shows: about $12 a foot for its own trees against about $16 a foot for the fir. The southern trees compared goes through what each one is actually like in a room.

Still to post their 2026 dates

These are listed so you know they were checked, not forgotten. None of them has published a 2026 season we can treat as fact, and none is carrying last year’s dates here as though they were this year’s.

Texas Christmas tree questions

When do Texas Christmas tree farms open in 2026?

Most open on Friday 27 November, the day after Thanksgiving. Three open the weekend before: Elgin CHRISTmas Tree Farm near Austin, Devine Acres near San Antonio and Kadee Farm near Dallas all open on Saturday 21 November. Pipe Creek near San Antonio opens on Monday 23 November; it and Kadee Farm near Dallas are the only two we list that then open every day rather than at weekends.

Which Texas Christmas tree farm is cheapest?

Of the farms publishing a 2026 price, Sunset Hill near Fort Worth is the cheapest per foot at $12, against $20 a foot plus tax at Devine Acres near San Antonio. Haynie's near Fort Worth starts lowest in absolute terms at $49.99 for a tabletop tree. Comparing them is harder than it looks, because Texas farms price by the foot, at a flat rate or by size band.

Can you cut your own Christmas tree in Texas?

Yes. Texas grows Virginia pine, Leyland cypress, Murray cypress, Arizona cypress and Afghan pine rather than fir, because fir will not take the heat. Every farm listed on this page offers choose-and-cut; Mainstay, which does not this year, is in the list below it. The Fraser firs you see on Texas lots were cut in North Carolina and trucked down, which is why they cost more.

Do Texas Christmas tree farms charge admission?

Most do not. Haynie's Green Acres says plainly that it charges no admission fee, and entry at Elgin is free all season. Devine Acres is the exception: it is a paid-admission event farm, with tickets at $13.95 when we last looked on 22 October, and it puts up to $50 of that back against the price of a tree.

Is there a Christmas tree farm in Dallas or Austin itself?

No. Every farm on this page is outside the city it serves, which is normal for tree farms anywhere. The closest to a city centre is Haynie's, about fifteen minutes south of Fort Worth. Near Dallas the nearest is Kadee Farm at Greenville, about fifty minutes out, and the furthest is Bois d'Arc at Telephone, an hour and three-quarters away.

How these are checked

Every farm on this page was read on its own website, Facebook or Instagram on 27 Oct 2026, or told us its dates by email. Two did: Sunset Hill on 26 September and Haynie’s on 12 October, and both say so on their entry.

We do not take dates from the growers’ association directory at texaschristmastrees.com. It was wrong twice this season, listing two farms as closed that were open. Where a farm’s own page could not be read — a broken certificate, a site that will not load — this page says that, rather than reporting it as “nothing posted”.

Dates and prices change. If you find something here that no longer matches the farm, say so and it gets fixed the same day.
